“This Act is intended as a framework for future legislation codifying human relationships with other earthly intelligences and, therefore, requires ongoing research, debate, and dialogue with vegetal citizens and the diverse human and non-human groups with whom they are engaged. To ensure the ongoing vitality and relevance of this framework, a formal review of this Act and its applications shall take place at intervals of every five growth cycles, as determined by the Jagube Hedgemonic Council of Stewards.”
THE JAGUBE DECLARATION AND PROTECTION ACT 2053
Commissioned by The Interspecies Library and Descanso Botanic Gardens The Jagube Declaration & Protection Act of 2053 appeared as a part of the Tree Tongue Installation contained within the 2026 Journal of Therolinguistics exhibition curated by Oscar Sagluero. In the future of Tree Tongue, the recognition of a legible, vegetal script within the Jagube plant of the Amazonian Biome spurred human recognition of plant citizens, and the drafting of new governance frameworks to include, and legally protect their unique perspectives, cultures, histories and futures.
The Jagube Declaration and Protection Act features the first translation efforts of the Jagube script, and the declaration as first recognised by Therolinguists in the field.
